The 2010 IMCA National Champion, Zane
DeVilbiss of Farmington, New Mexico started the 2011 season off
wondering if he would visit victory lane in 2011. It did not take
long as DeVilbiss was in victory lane left and right throughout the
season.
Zane picked up 20 feature wins across the Western
Region. He racked up wins in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, New
Mexico, Nevada, and Arizona at several different tracks.
Even
though Zane was a few points short of winning his second National
title in IMCA (finished 3rd in final points), he was able to win the
IMCA Western Region championship and the Desert Thunder Raceway track
championship two years in a row.
DeVilbiss also picked up a
series title as well, the 10 day series known as the Evenson Law
Office IMCA Iron Man Challenge Series for IMCA Modifieds in June. The
series hit 5 different tracks in 10 days in Northern Nevada. Zane led
the points from day one by winning the opener in Fallon. He also won
the race in Battle Mountain as well.
Zane's quest for a second
straight EQ IMCA Wild West Modified Tour title came short as he took
second in the final standings in that series. Even though he was
second, he had the most feature wins this season with 4. One in
Battle Mountain, Nevada; Rock Springs, Wyoming; and 2 in Cortez,
Colorado.
Towards the end of the season, DeVilbiss won the
Western Region Modified Shootout special at the Mohave Valley Raceway
in Bullhead City, Arizona and also qualified for the USRA Fall
Nationals in Las Cruces, New Mexico for the first time in his career.
He finished 14th in the feature.
Hard luck bit the former
National Champion hard at the final race of the 2011 season in Las
Vegas during the annual Duel in the Desert as he was just a few spots
